Type One Update

Hi, it's been a while since I updated you with a 'sweetness' report. I am doing really well with my diabetes. While my appetite was quite ravenous for a few weeks, I've since realized it's more fun to pretend I'm hungry so Mommy and Daddy give me a higher dose of insulin. Then I pull the old switcheroo and decide NOT to eat my healthy meal and instead wait for my high carb dessert! You see, if I don't eat enough carbs to cover the insulin Mommy and Daddy gave me then I can get sick. This is where the carbohydrate laden dessert comes in to play. I get extra dessert if I refuse my dinner. I can't lose! Apparently, though, Mommy and Daddy are catching on to this and starting to give me less insulin. Darn it, foiled again. I'm also told that when I get my pump it will be harder for me to trick them. I will find a way...

I'm really good with my shots, too. They no longer have to hold my arms back when they administer the injection and I like to watch it all happen. Mommy lets me hold the syringe cap which makes me pretty happy. I also like all the praise and hugs I get after the shots. I think that's making this all a little easier. Mommy and Daddy haven't tried taking me out to a restaurant yet--the thought of giving me a shot in public doesn't quite appeal to them. I'm sure they'll get over that soon.

Getting my finger poked to check the blood sugar is a fun game, too. I get to pick which hand to use and then I have fun counting down and shouting out a number. I don't cry at all when getting my shots or finger pokes and I even let them check my blood sugar in the middle of the night. I'm really getting used to this.

Mommy and Daddy are noting that I'm really happy, goofy and downright silly. I enjoy copying most everything they say and I am a sucker for good music (ie: Sesame Street, VeggieTales and Backyardigans are a few personal favorites). Mommy took some video of me singing so I'll have to get that on the blog soon.

I'm feeling well, so life is good.
