My Three Year Doctor Visit

About a month ago, I visited my pediatrician, Dr. Sackett, for my three year checkup. I was very scared since this was my first time to that clinic since the infamous diabetes diagnosis.

The girl who measured me obviously was having an off day. She said I grew only one inch in a year. Yeah, whatever, don't think so! I'm a giant. Here's proof. First, you can see from this scientific chart that I am well over 3 feet tall. I am well on my way to surpassing Mommy's five feet 4 stature in another year or two.

This shows I have clearly grown one and five-eights inches in 6 months. I have also gained a whopping 10 pounds since January. Now granted, on January 9, 2009, I was a very sick little boy and had lost a lot of weight in a short amount of time. Since then I've gone from 28 pounds to 38 pounds. I fit pretty well in 4 T clothing and my feet are ginormous!

My feet are so big, I've taken to wearing Mommy and Daddy's shoes. I really enjoy these black flats lately, they are very easy to wear.
Here I am going for a stroll in my shoes with my DQ ice cream cone. Wonder why it's not melting all over the floor.
Since I'm such a big boy (literally), I've been told I'm running out of space in my crib. I don't really agree with that since I plan on living the rest of my life in that crib. It's like an old trusty friend, it understands me. Sorry Mommy and Daddy, not moving to the big boy bed.

Oh fine, just this once I'll take a nap in here. Sheesh, my parents are pushy!
I have been sleeping in here for naps everyday. They are trying to convince me that it's a great place to sleep at night, too. So far, I'm not buying it. I request 'baby bed' every night. I'm guessing when my new sibling comes in a couple of months that she/he will just sleep in my big boy bed. I see no problem with that. Wait, I think I heard Mommy and Daddy say there's something wrong with the baby bed....what? It's 'falling apart'? How can that be? More to come later on this saga...
PS: I also saw my new endocrinologist, Dr Nathan, at the University of Minnesota. I really like him and Mommy and Daddy are extremely pleased with the level of care I'm getting. The doctor actually spent a whole 45 minutes in the room, just talking to us! He seems very friendly, extremely thorough, and very knowledgeable. Mommy and Daddy are excited at the amount of research the U does and really like the diabetic educators. Thanks to those who referred us to the U, and thanks, everyone else for your continued prayers. Life is good.

What's a Block Party?

(parents note: this actually occured several days ago. We would have posted sooner, but the internet tubes were full or something like that)

Ho hum, another day outside in my coozy car. I like to drive back and forth while viewing my land. Let's go to the end of the driveway and see what's going on in the world.

What in the world is this?!? Momma, why didn't you tell me we were having a block party? Oh, you did. Oh, that's why daddy's home early. Whatever, look at the size of that firetruck!

These trucks can be a little scary at first. Luckily, my neighbor Trouble (Emma from across the street, but he calls her trouble) was there to help me out. She's very taken by me - I have that effect on people.

To properly view the firetruck, you must circle it multiple times. You should even refuse the nice fireperson's offer to enter the truck until you have observed all the details around the truck.

After climbing the stairs and wondering around the inside for awhile (it's really roomy), I was ready for my picture. Daddy, get out of the way. Trouble and I are posing.

Like I said, it's a big firetruck. Luckily, I was able to remind people of this fact many times. By the way, the lights and siren are cool too. Just as long as I am ready for them.

The firepeople were also nice enough to hook up a hose for the kids to control. I decided to stay back and make sure the truck didn't go anywhere. But, as you can see, this was a big hit at the party. For some reason, Trouble and others were drenched by the time the hose was put away. Wierd.

Besides the firetruck, we had several other games and activities. Apparently daddy was in charge of activities. He's quite the game master I hear (daddy prefers the term activity guru). In this scene, Jake was nice enough to toss a water balloon around with me. The other kids weren't very good at this game as their balloons kept breaking. I think we won this one, Jake!

Another activity that went over extremely well was the egg drop. The kids were partnered up and had 15 minutes to use straws and tape to protect the egg. After winning the balloon toss, I sat this one out to allow for other winners. Here, daddy is atop the ladder to start dropping the eggs. Wow, that's high up there. They made a cool 'splaaaat' when they hit the ground. Only 3 of 10 made it past round one. But I think everyone was a winner based on the shouts of joy.

As all of us kids ran around the streets playing, it was a great night. We even had a parade where everyone went through the crowd in their decorated bikes, scooters, and skateboards. I still like my wagon, especially since someone pulls me. However, I was interested in this contraption. Tiny wheels, handlebars. Hmm, why won't this thing work? I think someone needs to pull me.

Never forget about Dave's Big Truck. And it's Dave's. And it's a truck. What's not to like?

In the end, the block party was a great night of food, neighbors, and playing in the street. Unfortunately, AJ a little too used to playing in the street, now a hard habit to break. Sigh.
Can't wait until next year!

Very Special Birthday Visitors

Over my birthday weekend, Grandma and Grandpa F were able to come up to visit and celebrate at my birthday party. Oh, I think I'm forgetting someone....NANA! Have I told you how much I LOVE Nana? I talk about her all the time. "Let's go see Grandma and Grandpa and (in a very loud voice) NANA!"

Grandpa and I are close buds. I guess I used to be scared of him. I really don't know why, he's a cool guy and he taught me how to give 'Grandpa Bumps'.

Grandma liked reading me books and playing cars and trucks with me. I wish they could've stayed longer than they were able.

Mommy, Daddy and I posed for a quick family photo.

Okay, I'm ready to go to Iowa with Nana! What? I have to stay here? But I'm all comfy in my chair. My parents are such downers.

My Third Birthday: Part Two

Several weeks ago (sheesh, Mommy) we had my third birthday party with my local family. It was meant to be a swimming party since July is usually 100 degrees and we're all dying to get out in the pool. Of course, the weather didn't cooperate and it was only in the chilly seventies. Oh well. Here I am will all my cousins from Mommy's side of the family. We're all hungry, hurry up and take the darn picture!

Since swimming was seemingly out of the question, I decided to show off my patriotism and stellar flag waving skills. All this while singing "My Country Tis of Thee". Who says three year olds can't be patriotic?

Uh, why am I in my swim trunks, you ask? Well, this is where the party got a little weird. Daddy decided not to fill up both pools and only fill one about a third of the way up. The sun wasn't shining and all the grown ups thought we wouldn't be interested in freezing our buns off.
They obviously underestimated the power of a nearly 6 year old and a hose. Yep, that's Joe splashing everyone with the hose and Nate shooting back with the water gun. I was temporarily exiting the pool to do a little happy dance. This was so fun! Mommy missed getting a picture of me jumping in the pool with all my clothes on, including my shoes.

After a good half hour of fun freezing pool activity, we were lured in to the house with promises of cake and ice cream. Look what Auntie Kristina made for me! A tractor cake!

"Happy birthday to me, happy birthday to me, happy birthday dear meeeeeee, happy birthday to me!" Look, I didn't cry this year, unlike last year. Yay, I'm growing up so fast *sniff*.
Addendum to the above note, I guess I did cry a little bit with the cake. Not so much for the singing to me, but when they took the cake away to slice it. Wait, I thought it was all MINE.
Next was the fun part: presents! I had fun opening them as fast as I could. Mommy couldn't keep track of who gave me what, oh well.

My older cousins liked to show me my presents and how to use them. They're so smart.
All in all a wonderful birthday party. Thanks everyone for coming to celebrate with me.
